Here we go. One word to go off on. Hope.
Lets see its a movie. Its all Korean. English subtitles.
I didnt know much about it.
The preview shows some deserted areas, in a town. On a highway. I didnt know if it was zombies paranormal I remember thinking, and theres aliens! lol.
The poster shows Asian woman with assault rifle and a in the corner is a type of creature.
Spoilers.
I gotta say the Koreans have a reputation for making a pretty wild movie. From the few that I’ve seen these movies have always been to the next degree.
Its a thriller I think first and foremost. Action thriller. Suspense, sub plots. Its creative in nature and special effects too.
Characters.
Lots of characters in this piece, its not like a traditional film. The main characters in my view are the authorities police. However there are some other important groups like the Hunters. And the Aliens. You got the civilians elders. The chief is probably like a good 55% of the movie. Is there growth in this character? Not very much, maybe the transition to a naive cop to a broken man to ultimate warrior. The woman cop plays a big role too, and adds some other side of the story. The hunters are the next group, with their own main character. They are at the beginning so they occupy another half of the story. The human civilians are more side characters but they add depth and someone for the cops to partner up with. Some of the civilians are victims or patients, they had some other acting scenes. The acting by the way is great. Perfect mix of over the top and sappy emotional moments to funny and relax moments. I might say in a metaphorical sense the environment is alive and is its own danger it makes sounds leaves behind ooze, things are flying. Not really a character but it shrieks and the audience views things distant in a way that unsure what is out there. Chief is loyal to his job, its a quiet area usually you get the sense so things start getting pretty crazy. Right away the character has flaws too, its not like a every shot hits, theres all sorts of accidents. In turn the character really gets traumatized with all the insanity going on especially at the beginning. No it goes on theres more than one monster and you get like a few split scenes of chaos and then it calms down for a while. The chief is a little flustered at first and they make some mistakes but they get it together. You see more of the character in interactions cause its not all monster, they chat with the hunters, and hes always trying to maintain order like asking about where citizens are getting these weapons arsenals. The absurdity of these situations got him losing his cool often and cursing. The film ion strange in a sense introducing the aliens and subplots. Wont go into all the details but through the aliens actions and motivations they have survival and family motivations maybe greater, its left vague so you can interpret it or guess. But the humans are revealed to have killed one of the children aliens, so there is a sympathetic sense to their cause even. Movie kinda reminds me of squid games, cause you get these in between action spots that these characters go off on tangent stories it pretty good I mean for the acting that I like. Cause can be awkard or funny. The characters outfits are unique and bright. Cop has a leather jacket and you dont really see that here. I guess with the chief I should write he had a sense of compassion a bit for the alien, but really its low on information the characters dont know what is going on. And the audience left to piece it together as they do in vague and in your face methods. Alien otherwise is a humanoid that turns into a sharp galloper. they more really fast, and besides for the beginning they aren’t chintzy on the monster scenes afterwards.
Setting.
Hope Harbor.
I couldnt tell you much about Korea. I know about the Korean war. They trashed a whole town for this, and or built a old town. Quite amazing with the town shots. The highway too and farm areas. Its pretty exotic like a northern deep forest. So you get alot of Farm scenes, trashed places. Roads highways, space ships. Probably wasnt just me but you get a sense of maybe Aliens lore in the space ship. Lots of moss, and also gross meat warehouses. The setting is big and dangerous like I said, sometimes you see the danger from far, other times just sense it. Everything is usually wrecked destroyed on fire mutilated. Setting got these ominous signs for mines and lookout for spies. Othertimes its deserted. The town scenes were fantastic, high speed car chases all the checkboxes. Also in the nature scenes were great too. They had horses, and nice artistic forest scenes. Also horse action scenes, you dont see that everyday. The setting is like end of the world too mountains moving and so on. Like a warzone dead corpses scattered all over the place. Explosions small arms fire. People screaming and dying. Getting chased by the alien thats the setting lol. Also yeh mentioned the Aliens style cockpit scene. Kinda a nice touch. This movie was just generous with some of the things a film viewer enjoys seeing.
Im just going to wrap this up. I have some other english duties to attend to. This film was enjoyable like a ride, not a 1940s play if you know what I mean.
Yeah I would watch this again, the moment I had the opportunity again from home.
